Mario Minardi is Made in Indonesia !!!

Remember when I said “Mario Minardi is traditional Italian brand…” in my earlier post some week ago ? Well dear readers, I was dead wrong.

Just found out this morning, that Mario Minardi is actually an Indonesian brand. Build, designed and manufactured in Indonesia. Not only that this is shocking but this is also a very good news. It’s good because, previously I’m very reluctant to admit that Indonesian made shoes (that is gentlemen shoes) are of good breeding and quality.

Admittedly my experience with known local branded shoes had always been disappointing. So far, off all local brand that I tried, only Mario Minardi, that in contrary has always delivered the quality that every men shoes should have.

Now, I would love to talk more about this shoes, but true to Indonesian company’s character, too few information about this shoe can be obtained in the internet. Luckily, I found an email address of the company, I’ll try to email them, and see how this could go forward ( a local bespoke shoes already crossed my mind), wish me luck.

mario minardi is also made by hong leung sdn bhd, a malaysian company, that has factories in indonesia

Yeah, I read some about it on the internet too, but there is no link, website or email address that I can contact with. Where is the factories in Indonesia, and who is actually owned the brand of Mario Minardi ?

  • When it comes to footwear, I have nothing in mind except slippers, sandals, sneakers and shoes. Mario Minardi? Never entered my mind until I read this post. Perhaps I need to enrich my shoes knowledge someday but for now I’m satisfied with my own sneakers ( I hate leather shoes esp.ones with laces, making me feel older many years). :=)

Hi all, I am Mario Minardi , and I am so excited of this blog. A little story about us , founded in 1982 with a partnership of an Italian and Indonesian , this brand was registered in Italy and worldwide. The setting up of the factory in Indonesia was supervised 100 % by Italian technician and production team. Our materials and machinery are mostly imported and are one of the best in the industry. Thanks to Rihan for creating this attractive blog.
About Hamballah comments, I would like to clarify ,Hong Leung is our buyer and our representative of Mario Minardi in Malaysia , we have been working together for almost 20 years till now.
A friendship that we have been taking care always.

    @akhlis

Bro, there will one day, when you’ll feel the enjoyment of wearing and taking care a leather shoe. I hope that day will come soon to you :)

  • Yeah, absolutely will !!
It’s not that I hate them that much actually, but it’s more because I have no situation requiring me to wear a pair of them. ^_^
Speaking of the mistaken origin of Mario Minardi, I think it’s now hard to define which good is made in a certain country. In my sense, being made isn’t only about where it’s made but also other factors that prove to be equally important. For instance, a pair of shoes can be made in a factory in country A, with imported materials from country B, designed by professionals from country C, marketed by agents in country D, sold in stores in country E, packaged in different brands in country F. That merchantile chain can’t really justify what or which goods are made in (…). There’s hardly 100% ‘made in …’ nowadays. Blame on the expansively borderless worldwide trade.

  • rihan:

You’ve got the point there. But I think, there is common uderstanding that “made in” terms should refers to the country where the product is manufactures/made before its being sold to the end user. In case of shoes, its true that the leather, eyelets, buckle, out sole, rubber may be imported from different countries, but in the ends, it the country of origin that is the winner. Take example high end bespoke shoes artisans in US, UK or Australia, despite they have the raw materials imported from German, Turkey and other countries they will still be proudly called Made in USA, UK, and Australia respectively.

In case of Mari Minardi, well, we’ll have that figure out once I meet them.

@ali: hai mr. ali. just one question, why wouldn’t you consider to enter retail by your own? so far i haven’t seen your store open in any of the malls in indonesia… considering the models and taste, i think it’s worth to go more than just being in a dept. store such as SOGO, etc etc

  • Ali:

Hi Erick, yes we are indeed preparing and will realize this in the nearest future.
    Thanks for your attention
